The Sony RX1R II is Coming to the Lab!!

Hi guys, I just wanted to post a quick update! The Sony RX1R II full frame compact point and shoot style camera is coming to the Lab for review! The Sony RX1R II is a ridiculously high quality camera with a fixed 35mm f/2 Zeiss lens. It features the same 42mp sensor as the Sony A7r II, so the hybrid AF should really help the focus speed from the previous generation model. It goes for a whopping $3898 US which sounds like a ton of money, but you must factor in the killer 35mm f/2 Zeiss lens that is permanently attached it’s not really that bad. Imagine the A7r II with the FE Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 lens for example, and the cost would be fairly close…   I have a full breakdown of the new RX1R II here >>

The RX1R II has a few issues that I wanted to check out for those looking to make the plunge. It’s a very small camera for the huge full frame sensor and lens attached overall. So, is it fun to use? How awkward is it in the real world? I heard battery life is horrible, but is it really that bad in the real world? How slow is the camera when handling those 42mp files? We shall see…

I also wanted to test the AF performance in low light situations for those that like to take pics in that environment. I think it will perform really well in this regard, but time will tell. Lastly, the video quality I wanted to test out. It does not do 4k video, but still has the potential to create some killer clips I think.
Image quality is going to be awesome, because the lens already is, and the sensor already is. So, it’s really just a matter of how the camera works in the real world.

So, if you are interested in the new RX1R II, please let me know what you would like to see tested specifically. I will try my best to do whatever you guys want, and I will also do my regular real world testing as you would expect.

Thanks for checking in and I’ll catch up with you guys later,
Jay
