Sony recently announced a new top quality ultra wide angle FE 12-24 f/2.8 GM Lens. This new beasts of a lens is going for a whopping $3000 US at the time of this article, but it does feature top quality and build, optics, and a fast f/2.8 constant aperture. It weighs in at 1.86 lb or 847 g which is actually less than I was expecting.
The FE 12-24mm f/2.8 GM Lens also features the latest and greatest internals and lens coatings from Sony plus an very cool Gel rear filter design which is a great option for a lens like this considering how large and curved the front element is. The lens comes with a template, so you can cut the gel filter to match the back of the lens where it goes.
In addition Sigma offers a great quality full frame ultra wide angle 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN lens which goes for $1399 US. Now when you look at that price and the image quality the Sigma lenses produce, it’s certainly worth considering depending on your budget of course…
