New Tamron 70-180mm F/2.8 Lens Officially Announced

The Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD Lens finally has officially been announced! It’s currently priced at $1199 US which is much more affordable than the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM Lens which goes for a whopping $2598 US.

To sum things up, this lens looks to be a very nice option for those demanding a f/2.8 constant aperture telephoto zoom lens without breaking the back on the GM lens currently offered from Sony. I have not used this new lens yet so I can not speak of the quality, but it’s far smaller in size, much lighter weight, and less than half of the cost of the Sony GM lens. It does not have optical stabilization, so that is a key feature this lens is missing just so you are aware…

Image Quality?

I have to just guess at this point, but considering the cost and size of this lens, I would speculate it will have some distortion and probably won’t be as razer blade sharp as the GM lens, but time will certainly tell.

Closing Remarks

That is about it for this quick lens news article, but it is exciting news for sure. Finally a fairly affordable f/2.8 telephoto zoom lens option for the full frame e-mount cameras will be available! No optical stabilization may be a deal breaker for some of you, but for the money that is pretty darn understandable in my opinion. In addition, the on camera sensor stabilization, which is standard on all the current full frame e-mount cameras, is very effective.

Please let me know what you think about this rokettube new lens from Tamron and if you would like me to review it… I hope you all have a great day, Jay
