I have done a little testing in the Lab so far and the quality of the optics looks incredible! Colors, Sharpness, Contrast, and Bokeh all look awesome to me based on my initial testing. A few Test Shots:

I did not get anything special yet, but wanted to share a few test type snap shots I took around the house and in the lab yesterday for those drooling in anticipation 😉
This first frame was taken hand held RAW Quality @ f/2.8, 1/20sec, 200mm, ISO 400. I was very impressed with the camera/ lens stabilization and sharpness captured with this snapshot!

  1. Hi,thank you for the article that really interesting. I got a A6000 and looking for a telephoto lens to shoot water sport as windsurf, kitesurf, surf from land and wildlife.
I actually thinking at 3 options the one you present, the lence 70-400 adaptator la-ea4 or the new 100-400 each one would you recommand?
70-200 good the F2 the weight is more flexible middle price of the 3, E-mount what loss at full zoom and 2x? And what F should we expect on A600?
70-400 not E-mount the less expensive a bit lighter as the 70-200 with 2x what loss of speed and af with the adaptator?
100-400 good E-mount, could be mount with 2x to extend zoom, but really expensive
    Thank you
    regards
    Sam

    1. Hi Samuel,
I would recommend the new FE 100-400mm GM Lens as the #1 option. Another great option is the FE 70-300mm G OSS Lens, which I reviewed here >> That lens is not optimized for sports, but if you are at a distance and the subjects are going left to right or right to left, it will work awesome. Coming straight towards you, not so much. In those cases you would need the more expensive 70-200mm units or the FE 100-400mm unit. The A-Mount 70-400mm w/ LA-EA3 lens adapter will work good, but the focus speeds will not be as good as using a native e-mount lens unfortunately. I have tested this and the performance is just not the same accuracy.
The 2x Teleconverter works pretty good, but it does have noticeable softness. The 1.4x teleconverter is a much better optical quality option from what I can tell, although I have not used that one yet.
I hope that helps and be sure to check out my Sony E-Mount Lens Guide Here >>
