I’ve been using the Sony RX100 for a few days now and it’s by far the best point and shoot style camera I have ever used. Image quality is off the charts good considering the size of the sensor and pixel density, and the features are plentiful. In fact, this camera has more shooting modes than any of the Nex cameras!!
The dynamic range is also pretty good, and the Zeiss Optics are very sharp corner to corner!! It does have some distortion on the wide end in particular, but it’s really not that bad considering it’s a zoom lens that collapses flat.
The lens being fast at f/1.8 wide open, I never really had any need for any high ISO shots yet, so stay tuned for those!!
The fixed 3″ LCD screen with WhiteMagic technology is a really nice upgrade from Nex cameras as far as seeing in the daylight is concerned!! The detail is also incredible crisp, but I do miss the articulating screen that the Nex cameras have.
Sony RX100 Sample Photos
I took this photo from the window of my car and to my surprise the Zeiss optics at 10.4mm was wide enough to capture the entire building. So, if you were wondering what 10.4mm gets you, this is a good example in my opinion. I was about 30-40 feet from the building I would say for reference.
Be sure to Click on the photos for the best viewing experience!!
Here’s the other side of the building from farther away with a 100% Crop of the truck in the lower right corner. The detail that the RX100 captures is excellent in my opinion.
These next few shots was a highly textured church with a slate roof that made for killer test shots!!
Just look at how sharp this slate roof is when viewing a 100% Crop!!
Clear Image Zoom Sample
Clear image zoom is a feature that allows the RX100 to effectively doubles the zoom range. The camera uses Photoshop like technology to create a much more accurate highly detailed enlargement. How good does this feature work?? You be the judge and check out the 3 images below!!
Zoomed all the way out at 10.4mm
Zoomed all the way with Optical Zoom- 3.6x
Max Digital Zoom or Clear Image Zoom as Sony likes to call it.
RX100 Random Sample Photos
Here’s a few more random shots I took in Superior Intelligent Auto Mode.
My Nephew Luke who is up from Texas with family 🙂
Here’s a few shots from another old Church, but this one had a Cemetery on property!
As you can see the Sony RX100 can take a great photo!! It’s also incredible small considering the output quality in my opinion as the optical challenges as well as sensor resolution challenges are enormous. Sony really did pull it off from what I can tell so far 😉
Stay tuned for more sample photos using the New Illustration Mode on the RX100 that is nothing short of incredible if you ask me!!
