Best APS-C Mirrorless Camera Option 2018

Hey guys and welcome to SonyAlphaLab! In this article I’m going to link up the best quality Sony A6500 mirrorless camera reviews that I have found on the web. I will also be reviewing this camera at some point, so don’t worry about that 😉 It’s nice to see other perspectives when your in the market for a camera like this, because I can’t possible cover everything, and oftentimes you will learn some cool tricks…

What I found out from these reviews so far is this: The A6500 does not over heat when recording video, even in the sun. The 5-Axis Sensor Stabilization works awesome, but not quite as good as the Olympus cameras it appears to me. I could be wrong about that though… The build quality and performance is very similar to the A6300, but even better in the AF department for video in particular. It’s hard to say if this is an actual improvement, or if the tests I’m seeing just make it look like it’s performing better. Image quality is identical to the A6300, so zero improvement in that area.

Best APS-C Mirrorless Camera Option 2018
  1. I would love to see a website dedicated to giving detailed results in printing enlargements from cameras. Such as sharpness and detail. I find dynamic range and all what this camera has vs the other comparable models have but nothing on quality of printing. I know there are many variables with printers as there are with computer screens and such. Maybe there are sites out there that are dedicated to print resolution which, I have yet to find. Any help before I purchase the Sony a6500 and RX10iii would really be appreciated.

    1. Hi Rudi and that is a very interesting request 🙂 Since the world of digital, the “how it looks on a print issue” has pretty much went away. If it looks good on a quality computer screen and you have the resolution, then it will look good on a quality print as well. The quality of the camera capture can be checked on the computer before it goes to print. that is not required anymore to determine the cameras quality in other words. It’s not like it will look good on the screen and then it will not look good on a print. If that happens, then printer is horrible, or the image file was not at the proper resolution for printing purposes. Printers need the proper resolution when creating highly detailed large prints. The camera megapixel count is the number you are looking for. The higher the number, the larger prints can be made while retaining detail. Changing the print size will not effect dynamic range for example. Also, the way the images are enlarged, if needed, has a lot to do with the quality of the large print.
Comparing the RX10 III and A6500 would yield you very similar results when printing, although the A6500 has the ability to capture a bit more dynamic range and detail due to the larger sensor, and slightly larger MP count. The A6500 would need a great lens mounted in order to have the same sharpness detail as the RX10 III as well. The Zeiss lens on that unit is killer!
I hope that helps and please feel free to ask more questions if you have them,
      Jay

  2. Hi.
I have Canon 5D Mark iii body. My lens are: Samyang 14mm f2.8, Canon 17-40mm f4, Canon 50mm f1.8 STM, Tamron 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD.
I want to change my Canon 5D Mark iii to Sony Alpha a6500. So i will buy Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony E Mount T Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x.
I have two questions for Metabones Speed Boster (including last firmware update). If you can help, i will be happy.
    1. Is there any problem with video autofocus with speedbooster and these lens?
    2. Is there any auto focus problem with any f-stop?
    Thanks much.

    1. Hi Rustam,
I have not used that speed booster or the A6500 yet, so I can’t say for sure. What I can tell you is, the AF in video mode with the Metabones IV and A7r II was not near as good as when using a native lens with no lens adapter. For photography I found it worked awesome however with no f/stop issues. With the Speed booster, you are gaining f-stops of light, so anything is possible I suppose. I have not heard of any f-stop issues, but I have not re-searched the speed booster very much.
I hope that helps a little at least…
      Jay

  3. Hi there how are you? Will I did like your video thanks decause I do have a 6000 and am thinking about the 6500 do think this would good up grade? Plus I have one more question about lens filter that would be great for me to buy. Thanks much

    1. Hi Nancy, I’m great and thanks for asking! I hope you and yours are doing well 🙂
To answer your question, yes the A6500 is a great camera and worth upgrading from the A6000 in my opinion. The built in sensor stabilization is awesome, the auto focus performance has been upgraded big time, video performance is better, and the camera body itself has been improved over the A6000 as well.
What kind of lens filter questions are you pondering?? I’m happy to try and help!
      Jay
