New Sigma fp Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera Announced!

Sigma is clearly on a roll announcing three new full frame lenses yesterday, and now a new full frame ultra compact mirrorless camera called the fp.

Sigma has released plans for its first full-frame mirrorless camera called the fp. An ultra-compact which claims to be the lightest and smallest full-frame mirrorless on the market at only 14.9 oz and pocketable. It has a 24.6MP Bayer type sensor and is capable of advanced 4K video.

The ultra compact camera body also incorporates a large heat sink which should really help with the heat being generated when capturing the 4k video in particular, and its weather-sealed for reliable operation in hairy environments.

SIGMA fp Concept Movie

Sigma appears to be serious about video in this model, because it offers UHD 4K at up to 30p and support for 12-bit CinemaDNG raw video when outputting video to an external recorder.

The output is handled by a USB 3.1 (Gen 1) Type-C connection and there is a UHS-II SD card slot for recording internally. Users can also record directly to a connected bus-powered SSD which is awesome!

The camera has a dedicated switch to change between stills and video shooting quickly which is a great feature in my opinion. This switch changes the operating menu and controls as well.  Basically creating a cleaner interface in both modes since each mode is dedicated to either photos or video.

The fp also features a 3.15″ 2.1m-dot touchscreen on the rear and a 3.5mm mic jack. The Sigma fp will also offer several optional accessories expand the abilities of the camera. For example: a HU-11 Hot Shoe Unit, HG-11 Hand Grip, LVF-11 LCD Viewfinder, and more…
