In this real world style review I will show you why 35mm is my favorite focal length if I had to pick just one, and this Viltrox 35mm f/1.2 LAB Lens is a great option for fulfilling that focal length! With a crazy fast f/1.2 Max and premium build quality this Viltrox lens is really putting the big boys on notice.. I used my Sony A7C II for the full frame camera body in order to test this beast out.

Conclusions…
So the Viltrox AF 35mm f/1.2 LAB Lens is one of the best auto focus lenses I have ever tested as far as straight up image quality across thew board. Even at f/1.2 this lens is extremely sharp corner to corner. The distortion is also very well controlled and there is no sign of fringing anywhere that is worth mentioning. The autofocus works really good as well and is extremely accurate in both photo and video.
Now the one noticeable negative I noticed with this lens is the focus breathing when recording video. It’s pretty bad when doing talking head like stuff if you move around a lot like I do. This can be very distracting for example, so I would recommend not moving so much if doing that at relatively close range like I was in a few scenes or use manual focus. Other than that, the size and weight is a thing, but with the optical quality being so good and no “in camera lens correction”, it’s just got to be this big and heavy I feel like.
35mm is basically what we see when looking around, so it’s a very easy focal length to use in my opinion. You can basically do everything with a 35mm other that long lens wildlife type stuff of course… I really enjoy using it for food, because I can actually hold the item in my hand and still get the shot. Any more than 35mm and it’s really hard to do that. I also love getting close to the pets, and all sorts of other stuff like I showed you on the green bridge for example…
At the end of the day for $1k this lens is a fantastic option for those looking for an insanely fast aperture 35mm lens. It honestly had me walking around giddy looking forward to seeing how the lens was going to render various scenes. It inspired me to be creative and get new angles I would not have considered in the past. So from that perspective this lens is just plan awesome and a blast to use.
