Storage Accessories – Including Memory Cards, Readers, Back-up Solutions, and more..

Memory cards are not all created equal!! The read and write speeds of memory cards are ultimately dictate the performance. You’ll notice this big time when it comes to copying the files from the card to your computer. The really high end cards have extra technology built in to help with security, reliability, and data recovery. So, when you see all the same size cards ranging so drastically in price, you will understand why! I personally own several 8 and 16gb Scandisk Ultra, and Extreme cards and I have never had a problem with them. I also have a 32gb Kingston card that I put in the list below that has performed flawlessly for about 3 years now!

Specifically, what you need depends on what your doing. I prefer the 32 gig these days as I shoot Raw and take a lot of video. If you shoot jpeg however, and don’t shoot video, a 4gig would probably be more than enough. Speed wise your going to want at least a Class 4 card for shooting HD video and beyond you really don’t need beyond that. However, if your shooting sports or a rapid shooter and your constantly filling up the image buffer on your camera, you will want the fastest memory card you can afford. Otherwise you may miss “the shot” due to a full image buffer. It’s happened to me at Weddings a few times, but I never really missed anything critical luckily. I found an excellent Review article on Tom’s Hardware comparing and testing SDHC cards and it explains all the technical jargon much better than I ever could!
